Notice

Subject:
Power supply issues affecting Brultech devices purchased before May 2015.
Devices affected:
GreenEye Monitor, DashBox, EtherPort, EtherBee
Symptom:
Device operation stops unexpectedly or device operates erratically.
Cause:
Failure or partial failure of the 5V dc power adapter. As of May 2015, Brultech has changed power adapter manufacturers and specified high quality components for greater durability.
Diagnosis:
This problem cannot be diagnosed by measuring the 5V DC voltage with a multimeter since the problem may occur under load or excessive ripple may be present which requires the use of an oscilloscope to properly diagnose.

If the suspect power supply is used to power the GEM, you may try powering the GEM with a USB 5V supply connected to the mini USB jack on the GEM next to the power jack. If the GEM resumes normal operation, then you may continue to use this supply.

How to determine if your power supply is from the pre-May 2016 batch:

Pre May 2016 adapters
  • Labeled “AC Adaptor”. Note that adaptor is spelled with “tor”. (1500mA)
High quality adapters
  • Labeled “Power Adapter”. Note that adapter is spelled with “ter”. (2000mA)
Solution:
You may purchase a 5Vdc 1.5A or 2A power adapter (2.1mm X 5.5mm barrel plug, center positive) locally or order one from Brultech.
Resolution:
The manufacturer which supplied us the original adapters has since gone out of business. We have obtained a new manufacturer and have specified high grade components.

All units sold as of May 2015 use the high quality power adapter.
