The ECM-1240's AUX-5 channel may optionaly be used to count pulses from a water or gas meter having a pulse output.

These type of meters generate pulses based on the amount of consumption. For example, some water flow meters will generate one pulse for every gallons consumed. The ECM-1240's software then counts these pulses and converts them into analytical information such as gallons used versus time and cost of water used.

The same concept applies to natural gas consumption, interpreting the pulses as cubic-feet/minute and cost of consumed gas.

Water Metering

The picture on the right displays a typical water flow meter with a pulse output. If your meter does not have a pulse output, a meter such as this may be added to your existing system.
