Split CT doesn't fit, any other options?

Split CT doesn't fit, any other options?

Post by mroch » Sun Jan 17, 2016 4:29 pm

I have a 200A service that comes preconnected to the main breaker. The wires are too close together to fit a split CT (I have a pair of Split-200's that I can't fit, plus there are 4 conductors). I'm not sure the micro-100 would fit, and even if it did, I can't disconnect them without having the power company come out.

Do I have any options here? I guess I could call the power company if I get some CTs that will work.

You would need to measure the outside diameter of the wire in the panel and compare the I.D. of the 100 split clamp on CT to know for sure.

Keep in mind if that is truly a 200 amp panel and your power draw is high it will exceed the limits of the 100 amp CT regardless of (IF) it fits around the conductor.

I would suggest you try to *stagger* the 200 amp CT's or find where the wires exist the service panel and try to clamp it from there. Keeping in mind if you have to you can always extend the wires so you can accomplish that goal.

That panel sure is tight . . .

Can you get some measurements of the wire diameter and the space between? It looks like it's paired up 100A leads so the Split-100s may work.
