Hello,

I have been researching commercial energy monitors for work and school. I have been planning on testing on my house.

From what I can gather Brultech GEM is the way to go. I have been reading a lot of the forum and some searches...

My question is I see in the GEM setup docs... that Hertz can be selected... 50/60...

I am in California United States 60 Hz...

I am learning Brultech is a Canadian company. Does Brultech equipment work on United States power grids???

Hello David,

Yes in North America the power supply is the same 120 volts @ 60Hz. I know lots of older folks still refer to it as 110/60Hz.

I have read a lot of your posts and also your garage journal forum postings...

Reading your posts have assisted greatly in realistically considering factors to install and operate.

I have the wife's authorization for purchase. I found on Brultechs mypowerpanel.com they have a commercial version of the green eye and that version can also monitor single phase panels...

So now I have to consider whether or not I buy a GEM practice on house and then remove and test on commercial building...

The more I research I don't think I want to remove from house so then start off with house one and as I practice buy another for commercial testing...

Hello David,

Residential is split single phase while (most) commercial buildings are often three phase. The GEM does in fact support three phase so you're good to go. It should be noted that the three phase unit requires extra PT's to monitor the three phases etc.

Good luck and I am sure you will come to enjoy monitoring and ultimately reduce your energy foot print.

I'm glad you found some of the information in my install thread helpful.

We only currently support 3-phase Wye (120/208V). In order to use 3-phase, we have a 3-phase package that has to be purchased now as it includes a phase indicator which is used during the install process.
