etherport keep dropping from computer

Post by cdnjeepin » Fri Nov 08, 2013 10:34 am

I originally had my etherport connected to my router but it would drop/disconnect every 2 hours.

I installed a separate NIC card and now it drops every 3 hours.

I have sleep turned off, hybrid sleep off, bios to to S1, everything set to never turn off.

I cant for the life of me think of anything else to try

Anyone with any other ideas?

I am not familiar with this device so this is completely from left field. If this is a USB device I would suggest you also check to see if the port is not set to go to sleep etc. Another thing is to check to see if the drivers for this device are corrupted.

If in doubt un-install and re-install the latest USB driver and see if that makes a difference.

When you say that you had your etherport connected to your router, I assume that you’re telling us that you plugged your GEM directly into a switch port on your router?

I use a third party RS232->ethernet device so am unfamilar with the Brultech provided device. However, my device is connected as you describe and has a feature that allows the setting of a time out. When the etherport device is in Client mode, and no data is received within the timeout period, the etherport will disconnect from the server, and then reconnect. I found that if I disabled this feature my etherport would lose connections after a few to several hours. Setting the timeout to 60 seconds has cured the problem with no lost connections in two months. On my device the feature is called "Telnet Timeout".
