How to connect ISY and ECM 1240

Post by wwat » Sun Aug 04, 2013 11:50 am

Hi,

I have an 2 x ECM1240's connected to a standalone PC via a Serialan device. The standalone PC is running the ECM engine software and collects all the data.
I have finished collecting data and now want to use one of the ECM1240 devices to trigger some events in my workshop.

I have the energy module installed within ISY994i Pro and was wondering how I can get data from the ECM1240 to ISY using that equipment.

Thanks.

Hello wwat,

1. You will require a ISY 994 iZ IR Pro, as it relies on the Zigbee hardware radio in the unit to communicate with the GEM / ECM 1240.

2. The ECM 1240 will also require the Zigbee hardware radio.

3. Once both devices are ready, all you need to do is follow the set up guide indicated by UDI.

4. Please note you can only monitor the first 5-7 channels of the ECM-1240. Ben / Michele can confirm how many the compatibility mode covers.

The ISY supports multiple ECM-1240s via Zigbee. I think it also can support 1 ECM-1240 via TCP (going off this post here http://www.forum.universal-devices.com/ ... &view=next)

To enable this, I think you will need to do the following:
- Stop real-time on the ECM-1240.
- Put your Serialan device in Server mode.
- Fill out the TCP/IP information on the energy monitoring module.

With the following equipment I was about to get this working with Ben's assistance.

1 ECM-1240
1 Serialan (wireless gateway devices similar to the CP1 in functionality)
ISY 994i Pro with the electricity module installed.

The ECM-1240 needs to be put into Real-Time mode.
Set the send interval on the ECM to 5seconds
Set the polling interval on the ISY to 10 seconds.

Appreciate your help Ben.

In this configuration what can you do within the ISY? :?: Can you select nodes from the ECM and create programs?

You don't see any reference to the ECM under the network tree on the 'Main' tab. But there is a reference to the ECM, channels and event type under the program tab. From there you can do things in relation to energy events. It does actually work.

After reading the reply back from Michel in the ISY forum I understand the other tabs now. It would explain why only 7 channels are listed as its intended only for the ECM-1240 devices.

Surprisingly, there are more options in using this method than with the 32 nodes listed in the tree.
