Is there any particular reason the ECM can't be installed inside the panel? Is it just a certification issue?

I already have 3 meters and 2 knive disconnect switches on the outside of my house, besides the main breaker panel -- and that doesn't count the phone and cable boxes. Having another enclosure doesn't thrill me.

We don't advise installing it in the panel, it'd be at your own risk.

The problem is mostly safety issues; for example, to prevent line power from touching the communication line.

Would it be possible to mount it inside then run the CT leads through the wall?

Well, I'd have to run a conduit down from the panel to below the floor, and then into the basement -- 3+ feet...

I don't think I care too much about running an RS232 cable into the panel -- could even make it 5 wires, and run power and data.

How about environmental factors, will the Colorado cold affect the unit?

As long as it stays above 0, it's OK.

Yeah, that might be a problem, it certainly gets colder than that here... Is it a certification thing, or is there something bad that'll happen to the unit? Is there an oscilator that slows down in the cold, making it less accurate?

It'll just affect the accuracy, due to the voltage reference.
