For F/W updates if you disconnect one of the UARTs it should be fine to update.

wow makes my wifi/ethernet combo module look simple
Is that wiznet just an RS232 over IP adapter? or something more?
(i use an RS232 and RS485 to IP box to interface with my carrier heating system, so i get the principle)
