Basic question about monitoring 240V circuits and amperage

You can certainly set the GEM to a 1 second interval for *Testing* purposes. But I would not advise this for long term use as it will impact the user from accessing the GEM's Setup Page (IF) and when required.

The lowest I have been comfortable is 3 seconds and this was done solely to validate it didn't cause any long term access or performance related issues. Since then I have set my GEM to a more reasonable 8 second interval and has been operating just fine for more than five years.

The DashBox would definitely have problems at anything less than 4 seconds I'd say. There's a fair bit of processing that goes into every packet now with calculating rates/etc.

Exactly, and realistically a 1 second interval isn't something a person really needs in normal environment / operations.

I know from reading the forums a few people have tried this with the various software suites. Again, I don't for see any real long term value in doing this and the negatives out weigh the positives in doing so.

Having said this when *Testing / Validation* is the short term goal there is nothing wrong in doing so. As long as the end user understands and accepts the performance and access issues that may be present while doing this.

Yes, it would only be for testing based on the suggestion from Ben in my other thread. Expected difficulty in reaching the GEM setup pages would be one concern. It would also consume storage at 10 times the rate I currently have, without extra processing to perform averaging before storing.

This would be feeding btmon and not a Dashbox currently.

Paul has a version of the GEM Network Utility that has a tab to poll the GEM at high speed (every second) for testing purposes also. I can see if he can release a version of that.

Yes, absolutely even (IF) storage wasn't an issue that level of granularity simply isn't required in normal operations. I have two 64 TB SAN storage devices even with this amount of possible storage space to use I still wouldn't even do it!

While it's running, no packets would be logged.

While it's running, no packets would be logged.
