GEM COM Failed to connect?

Post by Vanhalo » Thu Jun 12, 2014 5:05 pm

I am trying to upgrade to the latest firmware but I am failing on the COM connection. I have not actually attempted the firmware upgrade.

SN 01000187
COM 1.96
ENG 1.41
Ethernet Only (I assume this is the old ethernet, not sure though the latest GEM utility has no knowledge of the module installed.)

During a Get GEM Info query it fails the COM connection. It will close the connection shortly after I select Get GEM Info.

Requesting GEM Serial Number...... OK
Requesting GEM Com Port ..... FAIL
Requesting GEM Serial Number...... OK
Requesting com port 1 baud rate...... OK
Requesting GEM settings...... OK
COM firmware version ...... OK
ENG firmware version ...... OK
Reading settings.......OK
Reading hardware ........OK
Completed

Hello,

Since your Engine firmware is 1.41 you need to follow the steps in this link: http://brultech.com/home/community/view ... f=12&t=659

Please also down load the latest GEM Network Utility v5.9 from the software section.

Emailed him instructions, I'll leave them here for a reference:

I would do the following:

- Unplug the unit.
- Hold down the button at the bottom.
- Plug it in and release the button (LED should be red).
- Make sure your comm. module is set to 19200 baud.
- Go to the firmware tab, check Recovery Mode, select and update the firmware.

Once the COM firwmare is updated, it should be pretty easy to get the ENG in there. Do a Get GEM Info afterwards, and make sure your Hardware is set correctly (if not, set it). Might want to consider a "Factory Defaults" also.

I was able to update the COM to 3.10 (100% successful) but after it completed I was not able to update the engine to 1.48

No response from GEM
Will not get the Serial Number on Get GEM Info
Factory Reset Attempt tells me I need COM 2.20 to reset the factory settings.

When I browse to the IP I see the following

﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾﻾

Also I am getting the following error message on Get GEM info

Refresh error 2 0
Response data =
Data Length = 0

I used the GEM 5.9 Utility.

Once updated to 3.10, your baud rate on COM1 has likely changed to 115200. You'll have to change your comm. module to 115200 baud also. After you do that, try a Get GEM Info, if that works set your hardware properly on the firmware tab.
