UPS and Surge Protection

Post by JoeSoMD » Sun Jun 01, 2014 10:00 am

I saw in other posts the recommendation to put the AC/DC power supply on a UPS to protect it. I also read in the other post that the AC/AC power transformer should not be put on the UPS because it affects the voltage waveform. But can the AC/AC PT be put on one of the surge-only protected outlets of the UPS?

Aside: I finished (mostly) the physical install of the GEM today in my house. I am really happy with it!!! Just three more channels to install from a sub-panel that I'll get to in the near future. I also have to figure out how to connect to SEG... but I think the time-consuming part is pretty much done. I think you guys did a great job with the physical product.

Hello Joe,

Yes, you can place the AC PT on the surge only outlet to protect the GEM. I personally installed a surge alarm outlet where the AC PT is installed. That was mainly because that is how I wired the home from the onset.

I truly believe you will be very pleased and happy with the GEM. Please kindly take note there is a new COM / Engine firmware release. So update your GEM to receive the latest updates and bug fix's.

BTW: Some installation pictures of your final install would be great to see!
