My SEG Group Link

Post by Teken » Thu Aug 23, 2012 6:04 pm

The following link is to my SEG group where you can see how I configured my dash board to display the important energy numbers.

https://smartenergygroups.com/groups/teken_energy

With the help of Paul, Ben, and Sam (SEG) I have been able to capture, record, and display live and historic energy events for my home.

If you wish to join my group please do, create an account and then send a friend request in the link provided.

Teken,

I think I requested to join your group but I am still new to how the SEG site is organized. I have followed Ben’s new setup guide for SEG. All seems to go well until it tries to get the data streams (step 16). The Java GEM setup is Connected and is displaying data at a five second update. In the setup guide it states to make sure your GEM packets are coming out properly. I am watching the data in Debug but I am not sure what exactly to look for.

Here is what is collected:

(site 265ade6254a3642 (node Energy ? (e_1 12786)(p_1 2557)(e_2 51)(p_2 10)(e_3 36)(p_3 7)(e_4 22)(p_4 5)(e_5 30)(p_5 6)(e_6 0)(p_6 0)(e_7 0)(p_7 0)(e_8 0)(p_8 0)(e_9 0)(p_9 0)(e_10 0)(p_10 0)(e_11 0)(p_11 0)(e_12 20)(p_12 4)(e_13 0)(p_13 0)(e_14 0)(p_14 0)(e_15 0)(p_15 0)(e_16 0)(p_16 0)(e_17 0)(p_17 0)(e_18 0)(p_18 0)(e_19 0)(p_19 0)(e_20 0)(p_20 0)(e_21 0)(p_21 0)(e_22 0)(p_22 0)(e_23 0)(p_23 0)(e_24 0)(p_24 0)(e_25 0)(p_25 0)(e_26 0)(p_26 0)(e_27 0)(p_27 0)(e_28 0)(p_28 0)(e_29 0)(p_29 0)(e_30 0)(p_30 0)(e_31 0)(p_31 0)(e_32 0)(p_32 0)(n_1 0)(n_2 0)(n_3 0)(n_4 0)(t_1 418.0)(t_2 64.0)(t_3 -0.0)(t_4 0.0)(t_5 64.0)(t_6 -0.0)(t_7 0.0)(t_8 0.0)))
PUT /api_sites/stream HTTP/1.0
Host: api.smartenergygroups.com
Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Length: 652

I have used the token from the Site token as well as from the Device token with no change. When I do a “Discover” it seems to find my device but not the streams.

I am sure it is something completely obvious but I cannot find it. If you (or Ben) could give a bit of guidance in how to get the SEG site to collect the data streams I would appreciated it.

Again, I have both of Ben’s setup instructions that he posted today and I have Com 1.53 and Engine 1.35 so I think I have the same setup as you.

Thanks,
Brian

Does your node ID "Energy" match the node ID of your device?

You can check your node ID by clicking "edit" on your device.

Hello Brian,

Trust me I can absolutely relate to your frustrations! Lets go through some basics to ensure you have the following set up.

1. EtherX - Ensure your EtherX is set up like this in the photo I have included. Everything in yellow is how yours should be. Once you select the DNS box it will negate any other settings.

I can not stress enough that you enter and exit this applications a few times to ensure the settings you have entered stay there. This EtherX tool has to be one of the worst piece of software I have ever had to deal with in my life.

At the end of the day you want to ensure that the port 80 is set. The DNS box is selected and is pointing to the api.smartenergygroups.com and your IP config method is set to DHCP.

2. Change the data stream to 30 seconds in the GEM Java Setup. This will ensure no rounding issues with the data received from the SEG site.

3. Ensure your stream is set to SEG in the GEM Java Setup and click save. Your debug report listed above says it is so that is good.

As luck would have it I am NOT able to interact with the GEM Java Setup applications. This is exactly the same problem I have dealt with in the past. Once I have access I will confirm the other settings for you.

P.S.

I have added you into my SEG Group.

I attached a PDF of various screenshot. I think I am understanding what you are asking but a picture is worth a thousand words.

I actually was replying to Ben's post and I seen yours afterwards. I did what you posted and the SEG brought in the streams. I did have to change the DNS Server IP to 192.168.1.254 for my network. Also, when you change to this arrangment the GEM Java does not work. I guess I can change back and forth as I need.

Thanks,
Brian

Please make sure that the Lib folder is included in the same folder that you run the GreenEyeSetup.jar from. The JAR file relies on libraries inside that folder. If it's not there, it'll throw an error.

If you're ever having problems opening it, on a Windows system, open Command Prompt, navigate to the folder, and type "java -jar GreenEyeSetup.jar". It'll throw you an error message if there's a problem.

If you're having a problem with the DNS Server IP, try using a public DNS; such as, Googles (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4).

Yeah, you'll have to switch back and forth to make a TCP/IP connection to the setup software. The module only supports 1 TCP/IP connection at a time.

Brian,

Glad its pumping out data for you now. As you clearly noted, you will not have direct access to the GEM via the Java Setup after you have made these changes.

You may notice some frustrating behavior when you try to switch back and forth. You will notice that the system data, and all other data will consistently appear blank.

Even if you click on the refresh nothing will happen . . . You will also see the streams scrolling across the system settings page where you would normally see the engine / firmware revisions.

At the end of the day as long as I can get the data out and have it captured accurately its not too big of a deal. The GEM Java Setup still needs to be improved upon regardless, and that whole EtherX and the rest of the older apps need to be retired for good.

I'll try and get an update out for some of these bugs, going to try stopping/starting real-time before sending the request commands. That should clear up any packet collision.

Feel free to send me any comments on the GEM setup to my email (ben(at)brultech.com), and I'll look into integrating/fixing/etc.
