Power failure result ....

Post by JakeTri » Mon Apr 08, 2024 12:00 pm

About a year ago, after a power failure my GEM power adapter died and after replacing it I notice that GEM was not discoverable on the network.

After many attempts of reviving it I finally get it somehow back to life by re-flashing the FW to GEM and to the WIZ network module. I was able to flash WIZ only old version 4.31

. Flashing any newer version fail with a timeout error. Tried to update the MAC address with Wiznet tool but also return failure.
After flashing the Wiz firmware I start detecting it on the network but with bogus MAC address of 00:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF and DHCP server refuse to assign IP address but got it working by assigning a static IP address. The old Brultech Device Discovery see the network IP/MAC but did not recognize it as Brultech device

.
Now GEM network utility detect it but the serial number displayed does not match with the one from the sticker inside the GEM (hat one start with 01000 while the one displayed by GEM utility is 00541120.

Please help me with this questions:

Is any way to restore the original serial number from the GEM?
Is any way to restore or set a valid MAC address for the WIZ module ?
As alternative, it is possible to replace the WIZ module with maybe something like an ESP8266 or an ESP32 ?

Thanks,
Jake

Yeah, I'll DM you the guide to switch the serial number. It looks like your memory got corrupted due to older F/W.

That one is weird but it looks like it's working fine so I wouldn't worry about the MAC address. The DHCP issue, make sure there's no weird characters under "Option", that can cause the module not to save settings correctly.

We've recently designed an ESP8266 module to use the Xbee header on the GEM/ECM-1240. We got them in couple weeks ago.

Sorry, I cannot reply to your DM. I guess I need more posts before I'm allowed to send (or reply to) DM.

I successfully set the serial number to match the one from sticker. Thank you for quick solution!

I'll leave it as is with static setup for now .... as you said it is working ... I could not see any weird chars under options.

Look interesting based on the spec! ... I may order one when/if current LAN module dies or start behaving more weird.

Thanks again!

Can you post your Adv page in the GEM Setup Webpage when you get a chance? We'll make sure there's no bad settings in there.

Here is the Adv page and the status page (both without the serial number).
I'm amazed it still working after so long ... Just found the old order email and in 2 weeks (on April 24) will be 10 years from my order!

All looks like there. Your packet sent is a bit high, not sure if that's on purpose (150 seconds).

Last thing to check is your Chan CT and Chan Option sections to make sure you don't have any messed up settings. PT Type/Range is in Chan Option.

Hopefully it keeps kicking for another 10+ years.

I changed it on purpose from 30 to 150 seconds when I run out of storage on the Home Assistant system due to huge database. Initially wanted 300 seconds but after setting 300 got back 44 seconds (I assume it is stored as a byte so max would be 256) so I picked half of 300 to update every 2.5 minutes.
