Bad news.

I just got my new temp probes today. Connected one to GEM #1, and it still didn't see anything connected. Connected the same probe to GEM #2, and that GEM saw it, and got real temperature data from it (approx 68f, which is about right).

Since GEM #2 can see the probe, I took the ROM code and manually entered it into GEM 1 and reconnected the same probe back to GEM #1. GEM #1 only gets a temp reading of 32F, regardless if the probe is connected or not. So, it seems like I had a faulty temp probe and a faulty GEM.

Any ideas on how to fix it? The GEM that is working is nowhere near what I want to monitor temperatures of, and with the house being finished I can't pull wire from it.

Sadly, the GEM may have experienced a surge event which caused damage to the 1 Wire system. You can send an email to support and inquire what the costs will be to repair that unit. I know a few members that experienced the same thing and went that route.

Never heard back what the outcome was though - asking is free.

Yup. That does sound very similar. I just measured resistance from GND to Data, and got ~11 ohms.

Any chance this was caused by the faulty power supplies that were shipped with the first round of GEMs, and therefor covered under warranty?

Since the first incident I recall this problem has been caused by a electrical surge.

Don't worry about warranty, if you want to send it back for us to look at we will. If you want to try to replace that FET on your own (shouldn't be too difficult if you've soldered before) we won't void that offer either.
