Smarenergygroups

Post by nbsvirginia » Sat Mar 28, 2020 3:16 pm

Wondering if this is just me or if there is a general issue: I cannot access the smartenergygroups website for a few weeks now.

I guess I will go with Influx and Granfana now. The dash box has had too many hardware issues for me.

Do you have a DashBox currently?

The most common issue with older DashBoxes is the MicroSD card failing. The original DashBoxes weren't using very write-resistive flash memory. Since we've switched to high endurance memory we haven't had any flash failures. The only failures we've seen recently is with older firmware boot scripts that had a weaker shutdown procedure.

If you're experiencing something other then flash memory failure, let us know.

There is something definitely up with Smartenergygroups... It's been down for over a week, and nothing turns up on Google about site issues, or the whereabouts of Sam Sabey. Hopefully Sam's OK - the lack of news is worrisome.

Yeah, especially given everything Australia has been thru lately. Hopefully everything is good on his end.

I’ve sent him a personal email last week inquiring about the SEG Service. Sadly, I have not received a reply back from him.

Any news on SEG? The web site is still down.

Regarding my DashBox: I will need to investigate its status. Could be the memory card. But I may also explore other options (home assistant / btmon). I miss my energy monitoring :-)

I never received any reply to my inquiry with Sam. He has always replied back to me in the past so hope very much he is OK. Once again this affirms why Local First vs Cloud First is important with regards to data storage.

Thanks, Teken. I had contacted him via LinkedIn and also never received a response. I really hope he is OK. I invested in a redundant virtualization stack at home... I will find a place there to store my energy data. There does not seem to be any viable replacement to SEG either.

MySolarStats.com is a reliable host if you're looking for an easy place to upload online to.

If you're technical, you could get a low-end box and host Grafana/btmon.py on a VPS.

For your at-home setup: btmon.py and Grafana (and/or EmonCMS) would be the way to go.

EDIT: BTMon.py supports some online hosts too. Although a lot of them have gone the way of SEG also http://lancet.mit.edu/mwall/projects/po ... view-2013/

I just wonder if it would be possible to replace the code sending data to SEG with code sending data to InfluxDB directly? With SEG not being available anymore, I do not see much need to keep the code.

I was considering writing a proxy to do that myself when I have some time. The SEG format is relatively simple and parsable.
