GEM w/ WIFI Setup

Post by BobM » Tue Jul 24, 2018 11:53 am

Hi folks,

I'm having some trouble re-installing my GEM w/ WIFI purchased back in 2012 in my new home. I installed it in my last home back in 2012 where I was using btmon.py to collect the data and store it in a MySQL db and everything worked fine. I was hoping to get things running again at the new house before trying to upgrade firmware to the latest. Here is what I've done and the problems I see - any help appreciated.

I have a pair of Split-200 CTs for the mains, and 3 Micro-80 CTs and 22 Micro-40 CTs for individual circuits (in some cases using 2CTs of the same type to monitor each phase of a 240V circuit) yielding a total of 19 channels. I also have 2 DS18B20 temperature sensors connected to the 1-wire bus (this is new i.e. not installed previously).

After installing the CTs and temperature sensors I've used the GreenEyeSetup.jar I received originally in 2012 to configure Channel settings to the correct CT type, check the System settings to ensure GreenEye Binary packet format w/ 10s updates, and to enable the 2 temperature sensors. For the temperature sensors I noticed the address for both was the same so I suspect I need to upgrade firmware to use the web interface for setting those up properly.

Channel setup is:
CH 1 Mains
CH 2,3,4,5,6,9,10,11,12,13,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24 are individual circuits

At this point I have btmon running as a server getting data and storing it to MySQL. However, when I observe the btmon debug output the values I see for channels with CTs does not look correct nor do the values change from update to update and the temp sensors look like a -1 being interpreted as unsigned. Furthermore, I could not find the documentation for upgrading firmware for a GEM-SET-W (including how to ascertain what version of COM and ENG firmware I currently have). Below is a snapshot of debug output from btmon.py if it helps. Any suggestions appreciated.

Bob,

Yeah, you should get the firmwares updated.

The newest firmwares can be downloaded from http://www.brultech.com/software. The GEM Network Utility is the best program to use to update the firmwares.

If you don't have a Windows PC, you can try out the Java updater (http://www.brultech.com/software/files/ ... grader.zip).

I posted some instructions here for loading firmware onto older GEMs that may help:
