Gem no network lights

Post by jaycanter » Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:41 pm

History i had 3 ecm-1240's working and 2012 i got the gem. I got it with the zigbee to connect to the isy. I never got it working and never followed up. So no i figured i would get it working. I have been reading thru pages for the last few weeks and can't get it working.

When plugged in with the power supply it came with i have the green and yellow network lights at the cable on and a green comm led. But no system led

so i tried plugging into the usb port next to the power port and i only get comm and system leds that come on. no lights on the network jack or a connection thru my managed switch.

So i have a 5 volt 350 watt power supply and i connected it and still no network lights.

If i wait a little while and plug original ps in i have network and comm leds, but no system leds.

No matter what i have tried it can't be found using the device discovery program.

This gem was 1 of the very 1st sent out in august 2012 the sticker just says greeneye ethernet on it.

Any ideas why the network doesn't light up unless i use the original power supply?

I don't know what to try next my voltage is 5.01 reading while plugged into the gem.

Thank
Jay

Please check the original power supply versus the notice here:

What amperage power supply did you attempt to use with the Mini-USB connection? It may not have enough power to power the Ethernet module.

Did you unplug the barrel jack before plugging in the USB? If not, try the USB only.

That barrel jack supply (AC Adaptor) is likely bad.

Yes I did disconnect the barrel jack 1st.

I then took a 350 watt power supply put a new barrel jack on and plugged it in by itself t I get system and comm LEDs but no network.

The only time I can get network lights to come on 8s with original power supply but then 8 have no system led

I spoke with Paul and phone chargers could have lots of ripple on them as they don't need to be super accurate (since they're just charging). It could have the same issues you're experiencing with the barrel plug adapter.

Any chance you have a different barrel plug supply around you can try out? Even if just temporary to confirm it's the issue.

5Vdc 1.5A or 2A power adapter (2.1mm X 5.5mm barrel plug, center positive)

Try putting the GEM into Recovery Mode with the USB Charger and see if the Ethernet lights come on then.

Hold down the button at the bottom of the unit while plugging it in. Sys LED will be red.

If that doesn't work, while the unit is powered on, pop the battery out. Remove power to the GEM. Wait a few seconds then plug it back in.

If it works and the module comes up with the red light, try applying the latest COM firmware (with Recovery Mode checked).
