Thanks for the video. Yeah, that's very strange.

It's either a dead Ethernet module or it might just be a bad old firmware. The fact that the lights come on when the Sys LED is dead kind of looks like it might be a F/W issue. Definitely not a power issue given the 350W PS.

I'm not sure what the firmware is I have never got into it. I know this was 1 of the very 1st ones sent out in 2012. Guess we will see after I get serial adapter.

Thanks

Thanks
Tammy sent out the new power supply and DB9 cable yesterday. Toss out the original GEM supply.

Start by removing the battery while powered.

I would follow this procedure:
- Remove power from the unit.
- Hold down the button at the bottom of the unit.
- Power up the unit, the Sys LED should be red.
- Open the GEM Network Utility.
- Set the Baud Rate to 19200.
- Connect to the GEM.
- Go to the Firmware tab.
- Checkmark Recovery Mode.
- Select the latest COM firmware.
- Start the firmware upload.

If at any point it stalls, you need to start from step 1 as the old recovery mode gets stuck if it gets a bad byte in.

Then once loaded,

- Connect at 115200 as it'll likely switch with the GEM Network Utility.
- Do a Get GEM Info.
- Set Factory Defaults.
- Set Hardware Option to Ethernet-only (old).
- Unplug the unit, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in to clear old flags in memory.
- Re-connect and do another Get GEM Info to make sure they stuck.
- Drop the baud rate to 19200, re-connect at 19200.
- Select the latest ENG firmware.
- Load that firmware.

Once it boots back up,
- Connect at 19200
- Try Get GEM Info, if you can't access switch to 115200.
- If it's at 19200, set the baud rate to 115200.
- Try the Ethernet section to see if it can pull information from the Ethernet module

If that all works, you're good to go.

Post your GEM Status page when you get a second and I'll look it over to confirm there's no bad settings sitting around since the firmware was so old.

You might need to reset the password on the unit, under the Advanced section of the GEM Network Utility there's a command under GEM Commands to do so.

The GEM looks at a section of memory that is clear by default for the password. The issue is with older firmware some junk can get written to that section of memory.

My guess is you'll likely need to clear it with the GEM Network Utility.
