upgrading from com before 1.70
https://www.brultech.com/software/files/getsoft/3/1
"If upgrading from a version earlier than COM Version 1.70 and ENG version 1.41, a special procedure is required after updating. That procedure is listed here."

this 404's.
Would love to know how to upgrade. I haven't really used my system for several years and I want to get it working again.

FWIW this is as far as I can get right now. GEM Network Utility says it can't connect. I have the ethernet only option and I'm pretty sure I'm still on COM 1.51 because I don't recall ever updating it.
Also weird, I bought the GEM with Ethernet. But the sticker says GEM-W and has a wifi version.
GEM Model: GEM-W

Does the board have a red module connected to it, and does anything show up under Ethernet-only?topherhansen wrote:FWIW this is as far as I can get right now. What power supply does the unit have connected? Check the notice here:
http://brultech.com/contact
The first thing you may want to do is ditch the power supply.
I would do the following steps:
- Remove the battery from the unit.
- Unplug the unit, set the baud rate to 19200, hold down the button at the bottom of the unit and plug it back in. You should have a red Sys LED.
- Drop the baud rate to 19200 on the Ethernet module under the Ethernet only section.
- Under Firmware, checkmark Recovery Mode. Do not click anything else in between as any command to the GEM at that version will interrupt the firmware process.
- Load the latest COM firmware.
If it works, you'll likely need to set your Ethernet module back to 115200 once rebooted to communicate. You'll also need to remove power to the GEM, wait about 5-10 seconds, then plug it back in to clear any bad data in memory from the old version. Pop the battery back in once done.

Those wall adapters should work fine. Ethernet module looks like it's having no issues also.
You might want to force the Ethernet module to Server mode until the firmware upgrade is finished. This will stop it from connecting to SEG.

Re: upgrading from com before 1.70
Where in GEM Network Utility do I do that? Or is that a hardware thing I need to do? Here's what I tried.
I have left the TCP Client/TCP Server/Serial setting alone. It is set to TCP Client and next to it says port 5000 and the ip address 192.168.1.231
On the Ethernet Only tab I can click search and it finds the GEM. I clicked Server on Ethernet Mode and clicked Save Settings. Its has a "Processing" progress bar and then announces "Saved Successfully".
On the networking tab it finds the GEM but it says it's trying to use port 80 and Error.. Cannot Connect.
On the firmware tab if I click Ethernet Only under hardware options and click fine it says
Close connection
Open connection
Attempt to connect
Tries = 2
Close connection
Open connection
Attempt to connect

Re: upgrading from com before 1.70
Also, when I do get it connected. Do I upgrade directly to COM 4.33 from 1.51?
