GEM/Standalone Dashboard - Bad Packet Not Numeric Error

Post by virtualfreak1 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 8:05 pm

Hi,

Today my Standalone Dashboard mysteriously stopped updating.

The Dashboard Raw Data log shows:
2018-01-11 19:47:53: Serial Number is 01000214 and seconds is 14971980
Bad Packet Not Numeric Channel 10

The GreenEye Monitor Packet Send shows:

I noticed channel 10 has a colon after the equals sign. Would that be causing the problem and if so I do I correct it?

I've made no changes to my web hosting or GEM setup prior to the problem occuring.

- I'm using MySQL version of Dashboard
- using PHP 5.6 (changed to 7.0 to troubleshoot)
- COM version 4.32 (updated to COM version 4.33)
- I noticed I had a low battery error before updating and then an ERR2 after.
-I did a fresh install of the dashboard and SQL DB, pointed the GEM to it and I still get the same error on the Raw Data log.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

*UPDATE*

It has magically started working again. I was in the middle of troubleshooting using TCPDUMP from my router to packet capture to Wireshark when my GEM went active on the site and now the Dashboard rawdata logs don't show an error.

Here is the really interesting thing, I checked the GE Monitor packet send and it no longer shows that erroneous colon after c10=

So it appears the GEM just mysteriously started adding an unexpected colon and then stopped. I do still have the status err2 that I need to resolve. Could my GEM or Power Supply be faulty? I've had the GEM for a couple of years.

Any thoughts?

I'll email this to Paul, it almost looks like a problem with the ASCII. Colon is the next ASCII character after numeric characters.

Can you post a new packet now that it's working?

I have been having a similar issue with random packets having an invalid checksum:

Feb-26 1:46:19 PM Warning Brultech ECM packet does not contain a valid checksum.
Feb-26 1:13:59 PM Warning Brultech ECM packet does not contain a valid checksum.
Feb-26 1:07:19 PM Warning Brultech ECM packet does not contain a valid checksum.
Feb-26 12:57:39 PM Warning Brultech ECM packet does not contain a valid checksum.

It is not persistent but happens at random times. I'm not sure if it is related but I have not made any changes to the GEM or the Homeseer3 plugin it talks to (UltraECM3).

What firmware is the ECM-1240 running?

Hi Ben,
It's a GEM running:

COM firmware ver: 4.33
ENG firmware ver: 1.49
RealTime Status: ON
Packet Send Interval: 10
Pri. Packet Format: 4
Sec. Packet Format: 0
Sys Status: OK

Interestingly I often have page errors when logging into the GEM (i.e. on port 8000). I wonder if the ethernet module is causing some problems.

EDIT: I rebooted the network module and the GEM webpages are way more responsive. I'll keep an eye on the packet errors.

If responsiveness is an issue, check your Flow Control settings under Adv and make sure they're all disabled.

So I have been keeping an eye on this issue.
The packet errors disappear after rebooting the GEM or software rebooting the module via the 'device management' tab. But after a day or so they return.
The network interface is running: 4.02.10.C1224.01
I am using direct the ethernet connection and have disabled the Wifi AP via the GEM (Adv Tab).

Is it possible that the ethernet interface is faulting? How would I check this?

Marty.
