PT Settings?

After all my troubles i noticed the reported voltages had changed.

Before the new firmware i had a PT of 194 type 3 and the voltage was pretty darn steady at 120v.
After it was first brought back up i saw voltages reported in the 42v to 160v. I traced that to having swapped from my USB power adapter to the old duff one that was shipped out (i thought the USB > barrel power lead was causing issues.

Once i recconnected the lead i have been using for 2 years the voltage was now at 113!
Setting to 206 as per another thread resulst is 118.5v

Should i just adjust the PT level until it gets to 120v? something else?

I didn't quite follow what you meant about the USB?!?

Regardless fine tuning the PT Value should be referenced to a True RMS DMM. Ensure the DMM is measuring the same outlet for voltage as the PT is inserted into.

Adjust the GEM until you're as close as possible to the DMM. Lastly ensure the PT input is clean and inserted all the way.

I have a whole bunch of gadgets in my basement where the GEM and dashbox was.
I was running a whole bunch of wall warts - that annoyed me,
So i bought 1 anker multi USB outlet and a bunch of cables that are USB > barrel connector.
So now all the 5v devices are powered from one power supply.

I will check the PT is inserted correctly.
Odd that it literally changed from just upgrading the firmware....

What do i need to buy to measure the True RMS DMM?

You can purchase, rent, borrow any DMM that indicates it measures True AC RMS.

I am a Fluke guy so take that for what it's worth.

Since it's been a long time you can try cleaning off the PT jack with rubbing alcohol to make sure it makes a good connection. You can try rotating it first to see if the voltage fluctuates.

yes i noticed some tarnish, plugged it back it after scratching at it and voltage went up, thanks. can i use vodka instead of rubbing alcohol?

Sure, use a Q-Tip and rub it until what ever tarnish is removed. Ensure its completely dry before you even consider plugging it back in. Lastly, ensure the PT is inserted into the outlet the same way. Failure to do so will invert the readings from positive to negative!
