No network/comm light

Post by joelabq » Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:34 am

I have a GEM with the Wifi/Ethernet combo (USR-WIFI232B). At 7AM this morning, it just stopped transmitting for no reason. No power spike that I know, no weather in my area, etc. I looked at the LEDs and the Comm LED does not light up. Tried rebooting it a few times. The Wifi card light comes on, blinks with the System LED, and then nothing. I tried an Ethernet cable to the unit and once every few seconds I get a blink but then dies. I think maybe the module died?

In in case, where can I start to figure out how to get this thing back on the road?

I guess it's a false alarm. I pulled the PT and Power adapter off the board, plugged back in, and all is well now?

I dont know.

Hello Joel,

Sounds good, if the problem comes back there are a few things to consider and do. There have been instances where the radio jack(s) are dirty so need a quick cleaning with some electronic grade alcohol with a Q-Tip.

The next possible cause of a fault is a dying power supply.

The GEM can be powered via the standard radio jack in use now or the USB port. The forum and full users manual offers guidance and there are several threads about what to buy and do also.

Lastly, its best practices to have the GEM's power supply on a UPS to protect your investment should an electrical disturbances like a surge / sag be present.

Thanks for all that! I will see about cleaning this up and seeing what I can do about a UPS.

Check to see if your power supply matches the notice at:

http://brultech.com/contact

If it does, replace it with a new 5VDC power supply or a Mini-USB adapter.
