Ben,

Is there any negative side effects of inserting a resistor to the GEM's (Data & 5 volt) header if the 1 wire network is operating just fine? Would like to know if there is some kind of benefit to a working system?

Since I can't get past step 1 I guess I have a problem with the GEM. When the one wire block is completely disconnected (Ground, Data, +5) I do not get any 'FF' values. The ROM codes are zero except for the last two digits (00-00-00-00-00-00-00-01, 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-81, 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-41, etc.).

The power monitoring of the unit is great so unless there are any more thoughts then I will just accept where I am. I was considering another solution like an Ardunio device or review what solutions Teken (he has everything :D ) has in place to allow more than the eight channels.

I spoke with Paul and he says it sounds like the FET is damaged.

You can try unplugging the GEM and measure the resistance between GND and Data. It should be well above like 10k.

In my *Projects Install* thread I detail the use of a Autelis Bridge. Which offers support for up to 32 1 Wire temperature sensors. I purchased and used this hardware because it offered tight integration with my ISY Series Controller which helps manage my Insteon / Z-Wave home automation system.

For me knowing something is only part of the equation. It's having the ability to use that data and act upon it in a meaningful way automatically!

Whether it turns on / off HVAC, fans, switches, outlets, appliances etc.

So...Unless you meant 10 instead of 10K (which I am pretty sure you didn't), I guess that answers that...9.9 ohms.

Yeah, it looks like the FET is fried.

The part number is 2N7002P (MOSFET N-CH 60V 0.36A SOT-23) if you want to try to replace it, it's the 3-pin chip below the terminal strip.
