Wireless temperature sensors for GEM?

Post by zmarty » Sun Nov 15, 2015 8:00 pm

Hello,

The GEM website says "The 1-wire bus system uses the Maxim®/Dallas® proprietary standard, compatible with the very popular DS18B20 temperature sensor. Using this system, a single three conductor cable may connect all sensors on the same bus. The GreenEye Monitor may then address each temperature sensor individually."

I would ideally want to find wireless sensors. I have no idea if this is even possible, or what sensors could do this. I am looking for a wireless solution as I have no intention to run a wire everywhere (except maybe for outside temperature).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

There are 1 wire (wireless) solutions but they are all 3rd party products which the GEM does not currently support at the moment.

Your only recourse at the moment is to hard wire the 1 wire sensors into the GEM. Keeping in mind this offers and provides the most reliable communication method.

It should be noted the company that offers this wireless 1 wire system is going out of business. So, if there should ever be issues with the system you will be literally SOL.

Hi Teken,

Thanks for answering. What is the name of the company that is going out of business?

It's unfortunate that there isn't an officially supported wireless solution. I have an Insteon system like you do, and you know there are many Insteon devices running just fine on batteries and communicating wireless. I'm surprised there aren't more wireless temperature sensors.

This is a link to the company and it appears they have already dropped the wireless modules from their inventory: http://www.hobby-boards.com/store/categ ... Automation
