Calibrating GEM against meter

Post by Teken » Sun Dec 06, 2015 9:51 pm

Doing so would tell you if the CT was indicating a out of band wattage reading. Many are happy and content knowing what the values are in a general sense. While others want to know exactly what each load, appliance, circuit is drawing down to the watt.

It's entirely up to you to decide is the effort worth the reward.

Speaking for myself only I tested all the CT's and 90% were below the rated spec meaning the variance was less and thus more accurate.

The remaining 10% I simply invested a few hours using known low, mid, high wattage items and fine tuned the GEM to obtain the highest accuracy.

The end result is knowing what I see is 100% dead on and I can craft programs that can react to those values in my HA system.

Keep in mind you're only ever going to do this once so why not?

Ha!
