GEM Appears OOS

Post by penguinshockey » Sat Apr 18, 2015 12:05 pm

So I've had the GEM installed / up and running for about a week, connected to SEG for about three days working good. Last night SEG reported the GEM missing around 3am. This morning I found it with no LEDs on with a stable 5VDC supplied. All I get when rebooting is a quick red then green system LED or a steady system LED for about 5 seconds then no LEDs. The Comm LED always remains dark.
FYI - I have not attempted a firmware update since in my possession.

Any suggestions?

I have contacted Support but thought I would ask here as well since I don't expect a reply from them until at least Monday.

Hello,

Can you take a meter and measure the voltage at the outlet and at the barrel plug that powers the GEM.

Barrel plug is 5.12VDC
Outlet is 123VAC
Both are stable.

In your initial reply you stated you rebooted the GEM. Was this done via the web interface or doing a hard shut down of removing power from the GEM unit?

If this was done via soft boot via the set up page please remove both the power supply transformer and the PT transformer.

Wait about two minutes then apply power and the PT transformer and report back success / failure.

I rebooted via removing power - both transformers for 15 minutes then restoring both. No success. I did this several times. Once resulted in a steady red system light. The others with no lights. Pressing the reset pb for 6 seconds resulted in the system led flashing red then green then off very quickly.

What firmware is the GEM using for COM / Engine?

Also can you verify the PJ at the other end is fully inserted. If you're able to access the setup page after it comes up please use the soft boot options to reboot both COM & Engine at a time.

Please report back success / failure.

I got an email from Paul (support) and he suggested to try a different power supply as they have been having issues with the last batch of power supplies. I replaced it with a 5VDC supply with a mini USB (all I had) and once connected the GEM powered up normally, connected to my network and SEG. So far - 7 hours later - everything is working great. I guess even though the 5VDC power supply measured 5 volts unloaded, it wasn't working properly.

Thanks for all your help !!

We're getting in some new power supplies very soon with high-quality capacitors (Rubycon) to avoid any future issues.
