AC and Dryer monitoring

I am sure I am doing something wrong and it is easy to fix. I just can't seem to determine what I am doing wrong. I have GEM and it is monitoring my main feed (on one channel) and all of my 120V circuits are all monitoring ok.

The problem I am having is with monitoring my AC and Dryer. The AC has a red wire and black wire on a two pole breaker. I have one CT on the red wire and another CT on the black wire. It is a 30 AMP two pole breaker. Each CT is micro40. I have both CTs plugged into one channel. White lead on both CTs plugged into terminal 2 and the Black lead on both CTs plugged into terminal 3. I am not getting anything but 1 watt out of these even when the AC is on. I don't get anything if I just plug one CT into channel. The dryer is the same way but on a different channel.

Any ideas? I am sure it is something simple.

Thanks,
Phil

Hello Phil,

Sounds to me the CT's are crossed and canceling out the energy readings.

1. Confirm that channels CT is set for micro 40.

2. Verify the CT's are wired correctly. Remove just one CT wire and confirm the dryer shows up on just the one channel still plugged in.

3. Ensure the channel is NOT programmed to double the readings in the GEM's set up page.

Report back success / failure.

If the above solves the issue (#2), all you need to do is take the removed CT leads and swap them the other way around.

All is working now. To get two Micro40 CT working on the same interface, I had to have 1 CT plugged in opposite of the other CT.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Phil,

Good to see you got it all sorted out. I look forward to any updates in the projects forum should you be so inclined.
