I don't suspect the sensor to be bad so I wouldn't bother spending time with the Arduino unless you plan on using that permanently. 128C indicates the GEM couldn't read a poll.

Is it a parasitic version of the sensor? If so, you definitely need that pullup.

So what is a "typical good value" for the pull-up resistor? - I'm guess 1K or 5K ohms?
Just mount that right on the GEM terminal header between terminals 3 & 4?

Just checking that my understand is correct here...

Pauls currently not in and I'm not much of an electronics guy, but he indicated a "strong" pullup before.

It looks like we have 2 1.6K 2% resistors in series connected to our demo unit here.

Correction, they're 2 1K 5% resistors. The black looked like blue and gold looked like white at the end of the day yesterday.
