Alternate Potential Transformer (PT)

Post by OzTechGeek » Wed Mar 05, 2014 5:46 pm

I read in one of the manuals about a "Alternate Potential Transformer (PT) and 5VDC Power Supply" combo that could use the "USB Port" on the GEM instead of having to use 2 separate power supplies

Is this option available or did it not make it pass R&D?

Thanks

Teken, Thanks for the reply.

I have a question about the transformers that are currently shipping with the GEM. Are they small enough to fit on a standard duplex receptacle or are two separate receptacles required?

If they do not fit a standard receptacle, I might just wire 2 single receptacles in a double gang box so nothing else it connected to that receptacle.

Both of the transformers can fit into one duplex receptacle. But, the PT transformer will need to be turned upside down to allow this. In my personal install the power transformer was inserted into a UPS to provide redundant power in case of an outage.

The PT transformer is simply plugged into a type 3 surge alarm duplex outlet. This provides surge protection while allowing the device to monitor / reference the line voltage of the home.

Haven't had a chance to develop it yet unfortunately.

Something that we need to document is that if you reverse the polarity of the PT, all your channels polarities will also be reversed. This will only have an affect to those generating power.

I only have power from the electric company at the moment, so this should not be an issue for me, but just in case things change, is there an option within the GEM interface to "re-reverse" the polarity values if needed?

Yes there is.

Also, channels only marked as Net Metered will take it into consideration. So it'll only affect the channels you have your net metered data hooked up to.
