Absolutely, play with the system and plan it all out before installing it in its final resting place. Updating the GEM is the most important thing so any bugs are resolved.

Before I attached my Gem / DB to the wall near my power panel, I set it up on a bench by my PC and updated / configured / figured it out. I even spilt the power cord on a space heater and put a CT on it. This made the actual "Install" go much smoother / less down time.

Yep that's what I did yesterday when it arrived :ugeek:

Only thing I have not done as yet it actually connect a CT to it and test it.

I'm actually making labels for the CT's cables right now using my Rhino 6000, for which CT goes to which breaker :ugeek:

Yep already checked out what firmware is available for the GEM, and surprisingly my GEM came with COM Firmware v2.57 and ENG Firmware 1.47 already installed, I didn't even see v2.57 listed on the www.brultech.com/software page :D

I noticed the DB Updates page only lists Beta firmware v4.1.5E, where are the downloads for the stable releases?

4.09 is the last official stable release. What is your Dash Box running right now?

4.1.5B was a really stable release
4.1.5E has been running on my DB since 3/7/2014 and has ran fine except my wireless has dropped requiring a DB power down 3 times. On each of the drops the DB kept accumulating data, but could not be pinged. I believe Teken has yet to get his wireless working with 4.1.5E. If you are planning on using the wireless on your DB, my suggestion would be stick to 4.1.5B for a bit. Also a note on your GEM. I see you ordered the wired / wireless model - same as me. Beware that there is an issue where the wired and wireless cant co-exist on the same subnet unless the wired is plugged in.

4.1.5B

If I went to 4.1.5E and wanted to downgrade I would still need the link to the 4.1.5B firmware download

4.1.5B has many of the improvements and add on's already. I would suggest you wait till the next stable release sometime this week.

You have plenty to do this week any ways!

Same wireless as you - Only officially supported Model. Also I mis-spoke, the subnet issue is on the DB, not the Gem

All of us are using the TP-Link TL-WN721N. You can find it on EBAY for very cheap. On page 3 of the install thread about 1/3 from the bottom has a write up about the installing of the device: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=929&start=20
