Seven integrated power meters in one!

  • Two channels with "net" metering capabilities for renewable energy installations.
  • Aux channels capable of any 120V or 240V load.
  • Capable of up to three 15A breakers on a single Aux channel.
  • Various communication options including "Ethernet" or "Wireless Ethernet" using Brultech's EtherBee™ adaptor.
  • Data over internet available through our partnered web service company.
  • Aux 5 channel may be used for counting pulses or reading DC voltage from various environmental sensors instead of reading power.
  • More feature announcements to come.

Brultech has been in designing and manufacturing energy monitors for 17 years!

ECM-1240 Product Status

  • FIVE additional channels of true power energy metering (Aux1 to Aux5).

  • For any of the 7 power meter channels, a 120v or 240V load may be monitored (as long as they are supplied by a common 120V/240V split-phase source. 240V loads may require a two-CT arrangement.)

  • Three data communication options:

  1. RS-232 output which is standard on all units

  2. Ethernet communications for accessing data on a LAN or via the internet (optional)

  3. Wireless communication on a mesh network to our EtherBee adaptor for wireless interface to a network or using our Wireless dongle for wireless USB interface (optional).

  • Dual port allows RS-232 and Wireless transmission of data simultaneously (for ECM-1240 with wireless option).

  • The AUX 5 channel may be used for only one of the following applications:

  1. Energy monitoring of 120V or 240V load

  2. DC voltage measurement from a temperature sensor, battery current, etc. (unipolar or bipolar)

  3. Pulse counting from a gas meter or water meter equipped with a pulse output

We have partnered with an online data monitoring company which will offer a service to monitor this data for "real-time" viewing or historical viewing...... see what loads were "on" while you were away or when you are away.

Plug-Ins will soon be available for the most popular home automation packages.

* "Net" Metering is what is required for distinguishing between produced and consumed power for renewable energy installations.

This information is preliminary and may change before the product release (expected beginning Feb/09)

What does this mean?

The new ECM-1240 has the ability to not only track the real-time energy consumption of your entire home, but also simultaneously track and analyze the cost impact of several household loads.

All of this information is easily viewable on a connected computer or optionally via the internet.

Imagine being able to accurately track the consumption of:

  • Entire house panel (CH1)
  • Central Air unit (CH2)
  • Clothes Dryer (Aux1)
  • Electric Range (Aux2)
  • Water Heater (Aux3)
  • Spa (Aux4)
  • Furnace (Aux5)

The software can then show what percentage of your bill is affected by these various large loads.

This is only one of thousands of possible scenarios.

The ECM-1240 Home Energy Monitoring module has no "on-board" display. It has been designed to convey your energy consumption data directly to a local computer or internet connected computer.

Wind and Solar Power Producers:

Consider the following monitoring scenario:

  • CH1 is connected to monitor the entire service panel (using two CTs)
  • CH2 is connected to monitor production via your grid-tied inverter from a solar or wind renewable energy.
  • Use AUX1 to AUX5 to monitor five(5) additional household loads or up to 3- 15A breakers per AUX channel !

Communication Options:

Since the ECM-1240 is designed specifically for data communication, various options are available satisfying almost any communication needs.

The ECM-1240 would typically be installed next to the electrical panel. The distance between the ECM-1240 and a computer, Ethernet switch or router may be substantial. For this reason, the communication may be accomplished by:

  • RS-232 Cable

  • Ethernet Cable

  • Wirelessly using Mesh Networking Technology*

*Wireless Mesh Communication:

Optional wireless communication uses Digi International's XBee® mesh networking modules. These are capable of using ZigBee Alliance's ZigBee® protocol or Digi International's DigiMesh protocol using the same hardware. The difference is in the firmware installed.

Energy Monitoring SPLIT-CORE CTs are available in 60A, 100A and 200A capacity. Larger capacity CTs are available by special order. These are to be used with the monitor's CH1 or CH2. All of our SPLIT CTs are now UL/c listed.

Our "MICRO-CT" can connect to a panel circuit up to 40A. They take up a minimal amount of space in the panel. Although these are not "split-core" types, they are fairly easy to install. (must be installed by a qualified person or electrician)

The MICRO-CT is designed for use with Aux1 to AUX5 channels

Smaller Diameter than a Dime!

Slightly larger size CTs are also available for services using aluminum wiring.

The EtherBee adaptor's wireless communication is fully compatible with the "Digi®"  XBEE® modules. (digi.com)

The EtherBee comes programmed with Digi's "ZB" version of firmware (coordinator). This enables communication using the ZigBee® protocol.

ZNet-2.5 version of the Digi firmware is optionally available.
